Tigers Take Down Vermont, 2-1

Box Score

Hanover, N.H. - The Pacific Field Hockey team picked up a victory in its first game of a four game road trip to New England, edging the Vermont Catamounts, 2-1, at Dartmouth's Chase Astroturf. The Tigers improve to 1-2 with the victory while Vermont falls to 0-3 on the season. Sophomore Nicole Laskosky recorded her first ever multi-goal game to lead the Orange and Black.

Pacific conceded an early goal after the Catamounts were awarded a penalty corner just under three minutes into the contest. Ashley McDonald fired a shot off the rebound from a Taylor Gaines attempt that was saved and scored past sophomore goalkeeper Laura Pujade to give Vermont a 1-0 advantage.

The Tigers were undaunted as Laskosky was able to corral a rebound in front of the cage, besting Vermont goalkeeper Emily Snowden for an unassisted goal to level the score at 1-1. The Tigers controlled the offensive flow throughout the first half, outshooting the Catamounts 14-6 while also holding a 4-2 advantage on penalty corners.

Laskosky gave the Tigers the lead just over two minutes into the second half to give Pacific a 2-1 lead. The sophomore took a pass from freshman Hannah Tvergyak and scored on a shot to the far corner of the cage to put the Tigers ahead for the first time in 2014.

Pacific again was on the offensive in the second half, tallying 15 shots to Vermont's four while holding a 4-3 advantage on penalty corners. The Tigers put pressure on Snowden in the second period, tallying seven shots on goal.

Vermont's best chance to equalize came in the final seconds of the contest. After the Catamounts awarded a penalty corner as time expired, Gaines sent in one final shot, but Pujade was able to make a diving save to send the Tigers to their first victory of the season.

Sophomore Ali Campos took seven shots to lead the Tigers while Laskosky added six. Freshman Alicia Muiños chipped in five and Pujade made eight saves in the cage. Overall, Pacific dominated the shot count, outscoring the Catamounts 29-10, with seven different players registering shots on goal.

The Tigers will be back in action on Friday against NorPac East competition Appalachian State (1-1, 0-0 NorPac East). The contest will begin at 9:30 am Pacific time on Chase Astroturf in Hanover.
