Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific Field Hockey team posted a 5-0 win over Central Michigan on Thursday afternoon at the Pacific Field Hockey Turf. The Tigers improve to 4-5 on the season while the Chippewas fall to 1-6 after the loss.  Sophomore forward Ali Campos struck for two goals to extend her season total to nine while freshman Alicia Muiños and sophomores Leah Cofer and Kyleigh Morrison scored goals for the Orange and Black. The win represented the first for the Tigers on their new Edel Grass playing surface, officially commemorating a new era for the program. The win was also the largest shutout victory for Pacific since the 2006 season.

The Tigers struck first, with a goal in the fourth minute of the contest. Muiños scored unassisted, as she struck from the right side of the circle, spotting the ball above the reach of Central Michigan goalkeeper Sadie Reynolds to give Pacific a 1-0 advantage.

The 1-0 scoreline would hold at the halftime break, despite a 5-4 advantage in shots for the Tigers. The Chippewas never seemed to get into an offensive rhythm in the first half, as penalty corner attempts in the sixth and seventh minute failed to result in shots.

In the second half, the floodgates opened for the Tigers offense as Pacific scored on its first shot of the period. In the 37th minute, Muinos sent a ball into the circle, where Cofer was able to poke in a shot following a scrum in front of the cage, giving the Tigers the 2-0 cushion.

Pacific extended the lead in 53rd minute of play, as Morrison took a pass from Laskosky, who buried the shot into the open net for a 3-0 lead.  The Tigers scored on their very next shot, when Campos made a solo run past the Central Michigan defense, beating Reynolds with a diving shot towards the left  post to extend the lead to 4-0.

In the 66th minute, Campos again contributed to the scoreline with her ninth goal of the season, taking a centering pass from Cofer and hammering a goal home in front of the cage, putting the Tigers up 5-0.

The Tigers held a 16-5 advantage in shots and also out-cornered CMU 5-4. Campos led the Tigers with seven shots while freshman Savannah Burns, Cofer and Morrison had two apiece. Defending NorPac Defensive Player of the Week Laura Pujade made three saves, picking up her first career shutout in the process.

The Tigers will next be in action on Friday, October 3rd at No 8 Stanford in a 6:00 pm contest.
