San Diego, Calif. - The Pacific men's soccer team was fell at San Diego State Sunday night, 2-0, on the road. Josh Adachi posted a pair of saves in net for the Tigers.
San Diego State, which is just outside the Top 25 in the polls, improves to 5-1 on the season.
"There were stretches when we dictated tempo, and had some better buildups in the second half. We competed with a really good team tonight," head coach Ryan Jorden said. "But at the end of the day, it's not good enough to just build-up, you have to create chances. We took another step forward, and that's a positive. But we need to avoid the kinds of defensive breakdowns that lead to goals. Turn our build-ups into scoring chances and goals, and ultimately results."
Forrayah Bass finished an assist from Casey Phillips for a 1-0 San Diego State lead 10:47 into the game, posting the goal from 18 yards out for his third tally of the season.
Adachi posted a save to keep Bass from scoring again in the 21st minute, while SDSU goalkeeper Adam Allmaras denied a shot by Jamie Bent in the 27th minute.
The Tigers were out-shot 11-1 in the first half, with each keeper making one save. Pacific tried the quick counter-attack in the first half via the long ball, but where whistled off-sides three times.
Tyson Fox had a shot blocked early in the second half, and in the 62nd minute, the Aztecs extended the lead. Donald Benamna finished a shot from the left into the lower right side of the net for his first goal of the year, and 2-0 SDSU lead.
The Aztecs held an 8-1 edge in the second half in shot attempts, 20-2 for the game. Only four of San Diego State's shots were on frame, while half of Pacific's shots were on target.
Adachi finished with a pair of saves, while Allmaras posted the one in the contest.
Pacific falls to 0-4-0 on the season. The Tigers will have two cracks in the coming week at a road victory, with road games at San Jose State on Friday (3:00 p.m.) and at Cal Poly Sunday (1:00 p.m.).
