STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific men's soccer program bolstered its coaching staff, bringing a familiar face back in Edison "Eddie" Gonzalez as an assistant coach, as announced Tuesday by first-year head coach Andres Ochoa.

Gonzalez rejoins the Pacific staff after helping the Tigers during the 2017 and 2018 seasons as an assistant coach.

"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to return to University of the Pacific men's soccer and to once again work alongside Andres Ochoa," Gonzalez said. "Having previously worked together here in 2017 and 2018, I know the standards, the values, and the ambition that define this program. I'm excited to help build a winning culture rooted in accountability, player development, and pride in representing Pacific. My goal is to support our student-athletes both on and off the field while helping elevate the program to compete consistently at the highest level of collegiate soccer."

Gonzalez coached Ochoa during the 2017 campaign where the Tigers posted a 13-4-2 overall record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

"Edison returns to Pacific after seven years as a more experienced coach," Ochoa said. "Edison was part of the two best years of our program. He was a great coach for me and the group and with his background in the professional game, he will only make us better going forward. He is a highly innovative and will take our program to the next level in many fronts. His recruiting capacity in the central valley will be invaluable to our vision and growing the community of the 209 and beyond. In addition, his entrepreneurial efforts will help grow the brand. Edison is eager about his return, and many familiar faces around the office have welcomed him home."

Prior to Pacific, Gonzalez served as an assistant coach for Fresno Pacific. Under Gonzalez's tutelage, the Sunbirds reached the postseason three times including back-to-back NCCAA National Championship appearances in 2012 and 2013. A Fresno Pacific alumni himself, Gonzalez played for the Sunbird soccer program from 2006-09. The defender/midfielder was part of three NAIA Tournament teams and helped Fresno Pacific capture the 2007 Regional Championship.

Following his collegiate career, Gonzalez played one season with Club Deportivo Oro in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.

Gonzalez earned his bachelor's degree in kinesiology and exercise from Fresno Pacific in 2010.
