Golden Coast Conference Championship Central
Los Angeles, Calif. - The Pacific women's water polo team took third place at the inaugural Golden Coast Conference Championship Saturday by blowing out No. 17 Santa Clara, 11-4.
Rebecca Wright, Gracie Smith, and Brydie Pye each tallied three goals for Pacific while Noelle Mann added two.
Meghan Nee recorded 13 saves in goal.
Pacific jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back. Smith scored two goals in the first quarter, while Pye and Mann also tallied as the Tigers carried the shutout into the second period. Pacific started the second quarter down two players, but killed off a 6-on-4. The Broncos got on the board on a goal by Elle Surber, but Nee posted a save on Santa Clara's next possession and the Tigers drew a SCU ejection. The Tigers were stopped on the doorstep before SCU's Julia Peters tallied at the other end to cut Pacific's lead in half.
Noelle Mann finished from a sharp angle to put the Tigers up three, 5-2 headed into halftime. Pye finished with a lob shot over the keeper from inside the two-meter as the Tigers led 6-2, and Smith and Pye stretched Pacific's lead to 8-3 after three.
From there, Pacific ran away with it as Wright tacked on three goals in the fourth quarter.
June Afashar recorded six saves in goal for the Broncos.
Smith finished with nine goals in the three-game tournament for the Tigers, while Wright scored seven goals and Pye four.
Pacific wraps the season at 14-17 overall, while the 17th ranked Broncos fall to 17-13.
