San Bruno, Calif. - With the first week of the college baseball season under wraps, the West Coast Conference named its first Rawlings Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week for Feb. 17, 2014 with sophomore Brett Sullivan earning the honor. The award was the first career weekly award for the second-year shortstop and first for the Tigers' since Cory Popham was named Big West Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 25, 2013 when Pacific was still a member of its old conference.
Playing three contests that counted towards the weekly award total, Sullivan was the Tigers' hottest hitter as he went 8-for-12 (.667) at the plate while hitting in the 3-hole. He posted a .692 on-base percentage in the three games Pacific played recording a hit in each contest and two multi-hit performances. Against WCC foe Gonzaga, Sullivan went 4-for-5 with two RBI and a run. Midway through the tournament, Sullivan went five-straight at bats with a hit, finishing the Gonzaga game with four-straight before singling to start the Oregon State game. Overall, Sullivan recorded a hit in every game over the opening weekend, extending his hitting streak to nine games, including the Tigers' contest against Oregon State on Monday morning, dating back to the end of the 2013 season. In the game on Monday which will count towards the next week's totals, Sullivan went 1-for-4 against the second-ranked Beavers.
Sullivan will take his show home on Wednesday, Feb. 19 when the Tigers' open play at Klein Family Field with a single contest against San Jose State at 6:00 pm.
