Providence, R.I. - The No. 20 Pacific women's water polo team swept through the first day of the Brown Invitation with wins over Marist (8-5), Wagner (11-7) and host Brown (12-8). Taylor Adair scored 10 goals on the day, while Gracie Smith added eight.
Pacific evened its record at 4-4 overall with the trio of non-conference victories.
In the opener, Smith scored four times and Adair added a pair in the 8-5 win over Marist. Byrdie Pye and Chelsea Weir also scored for Pacific.
Pacific opened to a 2-1 lead after the first quarter on goals by Smith and Adair. Smith scored three more in the second quarter as the tigers led 5-3 at the break. In the second half, Pacific kept the Red Foxes off the board, with Adair and Pye stretching the lead to 7-3. Weir tacked on a goal in the fourth.
Meghan Nee posted nine saves in the victory.
Against Wagner, Nee racked up 14 saves in the cage and Adair added three more goals, while Elise Martin scored four times for the Tigers.
Smith and Adair posted first-quarter goals, but Megan Rodriguez and Sidney Hoshko scored for the Seahawks to keep it tied. Wagner took a 3-2 lead in the second before Martin and Rebecca Wright gave the Tigers a 4-3 halftime lead. The Seahawks stormed back with a three-goal third, taking a 6-4 lead before the Tigers ripped off six straight goals.
Wright tallied again to close the third quarter and Adair and Martin combined for five fourth quarter goals. Malena Prlain also found the back of the net for the 11-7 win.
In the night cap, the Tigers opened to a 2-1 lead in the first quarter on goals by Adair and Kelsey Carter. Smith scored twice and Pye added a goal in the second quarter as Pacific led 5-4 at the break.
Pacific exploded for a five-goal third as Adair twinkled the twine three times, Smith and Carter tallied and the Tigers led 10-5. In the fourth, the Tigers coasted home with Adair and Prlain scoring for the 12-8 win.
Nee recorded six saves in the victory.
All three opponents were opening their seasons at the Brown Invite, with Brown going 1-2 on the day, Marist and Wagner 1-1 each.
The Tigers are back in action on Sunday, with a 6:45 a.m. PT start against No. 19 Hartwick (0-2) and a 10 a.m. PT start against No. 13 Indiana (3-0).
