Men's Soccer Sees Santa Clara Pull Away, 4-1

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific men's soccer team fell 4-1 to Santa Clara Sunday night. Julio Cervantes tallied the goal for the Tigers.

Pacific controlled play early as Tyson Fox just missed a shot wide left of the far post in the eighth minute.

Josh Adachi denied a point-blank header from Parker Holland in the 14th minute, and a shot from Dylan Autran in the 16th minute.

But the Broncos broke through with a goal in the 30th minute as Ryan Masch headed home a give-and-go with Carlos Delgadillo.

Adachi posted three first half saves.

Santa Clara turned the tide in the second half, out-shooting Pacific 10-4. In the 48th minute, Matt Steurer converted the head to the far post off a feed from Brennan Castro for a 2-0 lead.

The Tigers roared back just 1:04 later, as Cervantes took a pass from Tyson Fox, cut towards the middle and ripped a shot from top of the box into the upper right for his second of the year.

But Santa Clara strung together a pair of passes from Alfred Edmonds, to Autran, to Max Ornstil, who finished to the lower left for a 3-1 lead in the 61st minute.

The Broncos tacked on an insurance marker in the 86th, as Castro slotted a ball ahead of Delgadillo, who finished into the left side of the net for his fourth of the season.

Santa Clara improved to 6-6-3 overall, 2-1-0 in WCC play. Pacific falls to 2-12-0 overall, 0-3-0 in WCC action.

Pacific is back in action on Friday, at home against Portland at 7 p.m. before traveling to Gonzaga for a Sunday road contest.
