Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific Field Hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision to the California Golden Bears on Sunday afternoon at the Pacific Field Hockey Turf, despite a second half goal from sophomore Ali Campos. The Golden Bears improve to 6-5 on the season with the win in Stockton while the Tigers drop to 4-7 on the season after defeat.  California held a narrow lead in the shot count, 9-8, and a 3-2 corner advantage.

Cal got on the board first in the 24th minute of play, as Clara Goni made a solo run through the middle of the circle and was able to best the Tiger goalkeeper sophomore Laura Pujade to put the Bears up 1-0.

The 1-0 scoreline would hold until halftime, and the Bears also opened up the second half scoring, adding to the lead in the 41st minute with Nicole Wallstedt firing home a shot off a pass from Paula Seibt after Seibt had beaten the Pacific defense on a breakaway down the right side of the field

The Tigers called a timeout following the second California score, and it seemed to help ratchet up the intensity of the Pacific attack. Campos had a breakaway opportunity in the 53rd minute and Pacific was awarded a penalty stroke after a Cal defender committed a foul while Campos had a clear path to the cage. The sophomore converted the opportunity for her NorPac-leading 10th goal of the season, putting the Tigers closer to equalizing the scoreline.

The Tigers had perhaps their best chance to tie the score in the 63rd minute, as freshman Savannah Burns fired a laser shot that was saved by Cal's goalkeeper Courtney Hendrickson, who used her pads to corral the attempt. 

Pacific Head Coach Andy Smith pulled Pujade for an extra field player in the waning seconds of the game, but Cal was able to keep the bolstered Orange and Black offense at bay and preserve a 2-1 victory.

Pujade made three saves while Campos led Pacific with three shots while freshman Alicia Muiños had two.

The Tigers are next in action on Sunday, October 12 at 3:00 pm in Davis, Calif. against UC Davis.
