Campos Named Pacific Competitor Of The Month For September

Stockton, Calif. - Pacific Field Hockey sophomore forward Ali Campos was named Pacific Athletics Competitor of the Month for September, the athletic department announced today. The award is presented each month to a Tiger student-athlete who demonstrates unusual or remarkable competitive effort. Eight student-athletes earn the distinction every year.

Campos led the Tigers with eight goals and 16 points in the month of September, despite leaving the team for two games to play for the Mexico senior women's national team. Ali established herself as a force on the national radar against Appalachian State on September 5th, as she scored four times. The performance was the second most prolific in program history, trailing only a five goal game by her sister, Vianney against Davidson in 2006. On the same road trip, Campos chipped in a pair of goals as Pacific took down Dartmouth.

In international competition, she made three appearances for the Mexican national team in the FIH World League in Guadalajara, Mexico, scoring in a 5-0 win over Peru. After returning to Stockton, Campos had another multi-goal game against Central Michigan on September 18th, giving the Tigers their first win on the new home turf.

She currently leads the NorPac conference in goals per game (0.85) and is third in points per game (1.69).

Head Coach Andy Smith said of Campos' honor, "Ali embodies everything that is good about a student athlete at Pacific.  She has a tireless work ethic and a will to win that is second to none.  Off the field, she is an excellent student who is taking an active role in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes."

The Tigers next home game is November 1st against California at 12:00 pm.
