Box Score Lynchburg, Va.- The Pacific Field Hockey team (5-10, 1-2 NorPac East) fell to the Liberty Flames (10-7, 4-0 NorPac), 4-0 in a NorPac East contest at the Liberty Field Hockey Field on Thursday afternoon. The Tigers couldn't overcome an early first half deficit as Liberty goalkeeper Mallory Cuccio recorded four saves to keep the Tigers largely in check. For the Tigers, sophomore Nicole Laskosky registered an unassisted second half goal, her ninth of the season, while sophomore goalkeeper Laura Pujade made nine saves. Sophomore Ali Campos led the Tigers with three shots.
The Flames took advantage of a penalty corner opportunity, after a Tiger defender was sent out for leaving her line early in the eighth minute. Helen Doolittle scored to put Liberty up 1-0 on the successful corner conversion. Sarah Gipe took the entry and passed to Doolittle, who scored past Pujade. The Flames also scored on a penalty corner in the 11th minute, as Hannah Jones inserted to Serena Barr, who shot on goal, but had her attempt deflected by Ashlee Krulock to put Liberty up 2-0.
Pacific had a good scoring chance in the 16th minute after the first penalty corner was awarded to the Orange and Black. Shots by freshman Alicia Muinos and sophomore Leah Cofer were saved by Cuccio. Campos had a pair of shots stopped in the 24th minute and the Flames headed to the halftime break up 2-0.
Liberty extended the lead to 3-0 in the second half as Sarah Gipe chipped a shot over the head of Pujade in the 37th minute. Natalie Barr added a goal in the 43rd minute before the Tigers were able to get on the board in the 62nd minute with Laskosky's score off a rebounded pass attempt to cut the Flames advantage to 4-1. Liberty would add a late Doolittle goal off a penalty corner to make the final scoreline 5-1 in favor of the hosts.
The Tigers will return to action on Saturday at 9:00 am PT against Appalachian State (3-12, 0-3 NorPac East) before traveling to face No. 1 North Carolina (13-2) on Sunday (10:00 am).
