First Half Flurry Too Much As Pacific Falls At UC Davis

Box Score

Davis, Calif. - One bad minute proved to be the Tigers' downfall on Sunday, Oct. 12 as Pacific dropped a 2-1 contest on the road at UC Davis in non-conference play. Despite outshooting the home Aggies, the Tigers fell to 4-8 on the season while the Aggies improved to 4-9.

Hitting the road against one of their local rivals in UC Davis, the Tigers found themselves suddenly trailing by two goals in under a minutes time as the Aggies netted back-to-back goals in the 24th minute to put Pacific in an early hole. UC Davis struck the first blow on a penalty corner as the Tigers ceded the scoring chance after committing an infraction inside the scoring circle. With the ball stopped on the pass in, Stephie Sabraw lifted a shot past goalkeeper Laura Pujade to put the Aggies on the board.

Upon the restart, the Tigers made a huge mistake as they turned the ball over in their own territory leading to a goal from Emily Costa just :21 seconds after the initial strike by the Aggies. Costa was able to come up with the near post shot as she picked off a mistake near the endline that led to a sharp angled effort.

Down by two, the Tigers continued to pressure the Aggies' defense as Pacific came up with 10 shots in the half. Finally breaking through in the 33rd minutes, Nicole Laskosky came up with her seventh goal of the year on a pass from Savannah Burns to bring the Tigers to within a single goal. Laskosky was able to one-time the pass from Burns into the back of the net as she knocked the ball past Briana Sooy into the near post for what would be the Tigers' lone goal of the game.

With the score sitting at 2-1, the two teams fought to a draw for the remaining 36 minutes as neither team could find the scoring chances they were able to come up with early in the game. Overall, the Tigers ended the contest with 13 shots to the Aggies' 11 while both 'keepers tallied three saves a piece.

Head Coach Andy Smith commended the Davis performance saying "They played their hearts out and thoroughly deserved this victory. We have to find a way to turn our one goal losses into victories. We will work hard this week and go forward from there."

The two teams will meet again on Saturday, Oct. 18 at Pacific's field hockey field. Prior to the rematch, the Tigers take on No. 5 Stanford at home on Friday, Oct. 17 with the two teams meeting at 3:00 pm.
