Pacific Falls To No. 20 New Hampshire, 3-1

Box Score

Palo Alto, Calif. – Pacific Field Hockey was downed by No. 20 New Hampshire today 3-1 at Stanford's Varsity Field Turf. Eager to rebound from Friday's close loss to VCU, Pacific came out with a cohesive offensive approach, highlighted by an early goal by senior captain Emily Tregoning. However, New Hampshire had a more consistent offensive effort throughout the match, firing 13 shots and controlling the pace of the game.

The scoring started just 3:21 into the game, when Tregoning punched in a goal on the rebound from her earlier shot, which hit off the post.  Pacific held a 1-0 advantage until New Hampshire's Meg Flatley took a centering pass from Lynne Lehman and found the back of the net to level the score at 1-1.

Pacific's defense was able to withstand six shots and six penalty corners by the Wildcats and the score would hold at 1-1 going into the period break.

At the 1:51 mark of the second half, New Hampshire took the lead as Kellie Joyce found Hannah Richard in the circle. Richard was able to best Pacific goalkeeper sophomore Molly Macierz to give the visitors a lead they would not relinquish.

Megan Bozek would add an unassisted goal off a penalty reset four minutes later to give New Hampshire a decisive 3-1 advantage.

Tregoning lead the Tigers with two shots while Macierz made four saves. Freshman Nicole Laskosky added the only other shot on goal for the Orange and Black in the 61st minute.

Coach Andy Smith liked his team's approach to the contest against a tough opponent.

"It's a journey. We're getting better everyday. I thought this was our most complete performance of the season."

Pacific fell to 0-4 on the year as New Hampshire picked up their first win of the season, improving to 1-3.

The Tigers will not return to the field until they face the St. Joseph's Hawks in Philadelphia, Pa. on September 19th.  That contest will be the first of four games in four days for the Tigers, who will also face LaSalle, St. Francis (Pa) and Pennsylvania in the City of Brotherly Love.
