Box Score Berkeley, Calif. – Pacific Field Hockey was bested Monday morning by the Missouri State Bears, 3-2, at Maxwell Family Field on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley. Missouri State improved to 1-1 on the year while Pacific fell to 0-2.
The Tigers, who were playing their second game in as many days, surrendered an early goal to the Bears' Charlie Redhead, who scored off of an out of bounds restart nearly six minutes into the contest.
Pacific however, was able to rebound, adding a goal by freshman Katharine Egan, the first of her career, off an assist from sophomore Kelsey Gulledge. Gulledge's shot was deflected by Egan's stick and went into the net to level the score at 1-1.
Five minutes later, the Orange and Black scored again to take a 2-1 lead on a diving shot to the far post by senior Maggie Grindatti. Grindatti's goal came off an assist from senior Katelyn Tatar.
Pacific recorded six shots in the first half as redshirt sophomore Molly Macierz tallied three saves.
After halftime, Missouri State would answer back with goals from Liz Young off a penalty corner and Holly Scherer off a deflection to take a 3-2 lead. Pacific was not able to add a late goal, despite substituting Macierz and using junior Kayley Brown as an extra field player with 2:38 left in the contest.
Pacific will be back in action as they return to Palo Alto, Calif. and the Stanford campus on Friday, September 6th for a 3pm contest with VCU.
