No. 18 Iowa Too Much For Tigers

Iowa City, Iowa - Pacific Field Hockey was again unable to overcome a Big Ten foe on the road, falling to No. 18 Iowa, 7-2 at Grant Field in Iowa City. The Tigers fall to 3-10, (1-2 NorPac) after the loss. Iowa improves to 8-5, (1-2 Big Ten) with the non-conference victory.

The Hawkeyes started the scoring early in the first period, putting Pacific into a 2-0 hole just three minutes and 39 seconds into the game. At the 2:28 mark, Stephanie Norlander took a centering pass from Natalie Cafone and converted for a goal, and just over a minute later Cafone added an unassisted goal.

Iowa widened its lead to 3-0 at the 8:45 mark as Dani Hemeron scored off a deflection. Iowa would add two more unassisted goals from Aubrey Coleman and Cafone to take a 5-0 lead before sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Corder replaced starting goalkeeper sophomore Molly Macierz. The 5-0 lead would hold at the intermission.

Iowa outshot the Tigers nine to three in the first half, but Pacific held a 3-2 advantage in penalty corners despite the scoreline. The Hawkeyes made a goalie change at the halftime break, summoning Alexandra Pecora in relief of Kelsey Boyce.

Pacific scored off a penalty corner just under five minutes into the second half, with senior Emily Tregoning converting off assists from senior Katelyn Tatar and freshman Nicole Laskosky, to narrow the Iowa lead to 5-1.

Iowa, however, added two more goals from Kelsey Mitchell and Marike Stribos to widen the margin to 7-1 in the 52nd minute of play.

The Orange and Black scored again to make the score 7-2 with just under nine minutes remaining in the half. Freshman Kyleigh Morrison scored off a corner for her first career goal. Senior Paige Counsman was credited with the assist on the milestone.

Tregoning led the Tiger offense with four shots on goal as Corder and Macierz combined for seven saves.

Pacific will next be in action on Friday, October 18th as NorPac action returns at 3pm against UC Davis. The designated home game will be played at Maxwell Family Field in Berkeley, Calif.
