Women's Basketball Welcomes Nevada Thursday in Home Opener

Game Notes

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's basketball team looks to move to 3-0 as Nevada visits the Alex G. Spanos Center for the Tigers' home opener, Thursday at 7 p.m. Pacific opened the 2012-13 season with road wins at Seattle and Eastern Washington.

"We're excited to be back home", said head coach Lynne Roberts. "We started off with the two road wins, but I know our kids are fired up to have four straight games at home."

Nevada enters Thursday's game at 1-0 after a 76-72 home win over Cal State Fullerton.

Pacific is off to a 2-0 start after wins at Seattle and Eastern Washington on the road. Sophomore center Kendall Kenyon paced the Tigers with her sixth career double-double at Eastern Washington. She was named Big West Player of the Week by College Sports Madness after posting 14 points and nine boards against Seattle and 11 points with 10 rebounds at EWU. She leads the Tigers with 12.5 points per game.

The balanced Pacific attack features six players averaging seven or more points per game, as five different players have hit double-figures scoring in either of the first two games. Oddly enough, none of those five were among the top three in scoring for the Tigers last season.

The Tigers have yet to trail in the second half this season, as a 7-0 run to start the second half against EWU gave Pacific the lead for good, and a 21-3 run in the first half against Seattle created a 15-point cushion the Tigers never relinquished.

Washington natives Claire Conricode (Bothel) and Sam Pettinger (Everett) both tallied career-highs in scoring in their home state. Conricode, a sophomore guard, scored 10 in the win at Seattle, while Pettinger tallied 11 at Eastern Washington.

Last season against the Wolf Pack, Nevada led by 10 with two minutes remaining, but Pacific's 12-2 run forced overtime and the Tigers prevailed in extra time, 75-70. Four Tigers scored in double-figures, including Erica McKenzie with a team-high 19 points. She hit a pair of threes in the final two minutes of regulation to start the run. Gena Johnson added 15 points, including the game-tying bucket in regulation. Ashley Wakefield chipped in 17 points including six in overtime.

"There's some areas we need need to get better at," Roberts added. "The good thing about this group is that they know they need to get better. We have a challenging game with Nevada. But we play well [at home] typically. Our fan base is awesome, and we're going to need them, so hopefully we get a good crowd."

Following the contest, Pacific's four-game home stand continues on Tuesday, Nov. 20, against Santa Clara. Pacific will face Fordham (Fri., Nov. 23) and Fresno State (Wed., Nov. 28) before hitting the road in December for four games.
