Field Hockey Falls At California

Box Score

Berkeley, Calif. – Lara Kruggel scored all five of California's goals as the Pacific field hockey team fell to the Golden Bears, 5-0, Friday, Oct. 12.

The Tigers now sit at 4-10 on the year while California improves to 5-7 with the win.

The Tigers hung with California for much of the first half, sending away multiple shots from the Golden Bears. The hosts finally broke through in the 30th minute on a penalty corner as Kruggel slotted it home from the right side of the goal. It would be the only score of the first half as Pacific's defense held strong for the rest of the period.

Kruggel put California up 2-0 in the 45th minute before netting a goal off of a seemingly broken corner two minutes later. She added her final two scores down the stretch as the Golden Bears pulled away for the win.

Pacific registered seven shots on goal, three from both juniors Melissa Maultsby and Paige Counsman. Senior Emily Trudeau picked up two defensive saves, upping her school-best career total to 24.

Senior goalkeeper Ashlee Schlesier recorded eight saves in a complete-game effort.

Pacific returns to Brookside Field this Sunday, Oct. 14, where it will look for revenge against the same California team. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m., and the Tigers will bid farewell to their six seniors prior to the game.
