Smithfield, R.I. – The Pacific Field Hockey team finished its road trip to Rhode Island with a 4-1 loss to the Bryant Bulldogs Monday, September 12. The contest was the third game in four days for the Tigers, who beat Brown in the first game of the weekend on a thrilling last minute goal from Amanda Spellman on Friday, September 9.

The Bulldogs got out to a quick 2-0 lead after first half goals from Abigail Armstrong and Brittany Vasconcelos. Bryant would tack on two more in the second half from Katherine Andrusin and Rosie Bird for insurance purposes.

The Pacific offense was aggressive all day, ripping a season-high 27 shots, including 23 in the second half. However, Bryant's keeper Megan Hancock was outstanding making 14 saves.

Late in the second half the Tiger offense was finally rewarded for their attack with a goal. Senior Robin Nelson recorded her first score of the season on a rebound off a penalty corner; junior Dinah Compton collected the assist. Nelson said of the goal, "it bounced through people in the circle, and ended up on my stick in front of the net." She added, "I saw the open net and all I had to do was push it to the back of the cage."

Linda MacDonald understood the difficulty of playing three games in four days and said, "we did not come out strong, I could tell the girls were tried from yesterday and they were not able to get into a rhythm until we faced a deficit." However, she did note the improvements on this trip she added, "We are doing a lot better offensively, putting more pressure on opposing defenses, but we need more urgency on the defensive side of the field."

Pacific returns home to the friendly confines of Brookside Field to resume NorPac Conference play against Stanford Saturday, September 17 at 1:00 PM.
