Pacific Field Hockey Drops Contest To Providence

Box Score

Providence, R.I. – The Pacific Field Hockey team looked to build on its thrilling last minute win against Brown, but dropped the second game of their road trip 4-1 to Providence Sunday, September 11.

The Tigers were in an early 1-0 deficit after freshman forward Daniella Bernasconi netted a deflection three minutes into the contest. Then Pacific found itself in a bigger hole after Friars' sophomore Brittany Ross beat goalkeeper Ashlee Schlesier, giving the Providence a 2-0 lead.

However, Pacific forward Melissa Maultsby would not let the Tigers trail by two for long. Just 62 seconds after the Friars' second goal, Maultsby took the ball baseline on the left side and lifted it on her reverse into the upper right corner leaving the score at 2-1 heading into halftime. She said of the goal after the game, "I really wanted to put us on the board. It felt amazing to score because it is a hard shot to make, and it's the first time I have executed the reverse shot."

Pacific's offense kept pressure on the Friars' all afternoon, taking 13 shots, but two second half goals for Providence put the contest out of reach.

The Tigers finish their road trip to Rhode Island with a contest at Bryant, Monday, September 12 at 9 AM.
