Tigers Fall In Opening Round of Big West Tournament to UC Davis, 8-4

Santa Barbara, Calif. – In the third meeting against No. 18 UC Davis (UCD) of the season, Pacific's women's water polo team dropped an 8-4 decision to the Aggies in the opening game of the 2011 Big West Tournament. With the loss the Tigers fell to 20-12 (2-3 Big West) on the season while UCD improved to 19-11 (1-4 Big West) on the year.

In the loss to UCD the Aggies got off to a quick start, outscoring the Tigers 3-1 in the first period. Despite being down by two goals, behind three saves from Michele Relton the Tigers limited UCD to a pair of goals in the second frame while finding the back of the net once to trail the Aggies 5-2 heading into the half. Over the next two periods Relton accumulated eight additional saves but UCD added three goals to expand its lead. Pacific tallied two goals during the final 16 minutes of regulation in spite of this the Tigers were unable to overcome the Aggie lead and fell 8-4 to the No. 5 seed UC Davis.

Individually the Tigers were led by seniors Bethany Quertermous and Dara Tawarahara who scored two goals apiece. Freshman Michele Relton recorded 12 saves in the cage for Pacific.

The Tigers continue action on Sunday, May 1, at 11 am against the loser of the Match 2, No. 16 Long Beach State vs. No. 14 UC Santa Barbara contest.
