Athens, Greece - Finishing her first
professional season overseas, former Tiger standout Mallori Gibson
went out with a bang as she helped lead Olympiakos to its first
ever Greek Cup championship on Saturday April 16. Olympiakos
defeated its archrival AEK, 3-2, in the finals of the Greek Cup to
take home the trophy.
Olympiakos had to come back from a 2-1 deficit to put an end to
their runner-up string in which the team took home the silver in a
series of six finals in league and cup play. After winning the
opening set, 25-22, Olympiakos dropped sets two and three to fall
behind. Gibson and her team would storm back in the fourth set,
25-18, to force a tie-breaking fifth set before bringing home the
championship with a 15-10 win in the final set. Gibson played a
large part in the rally as the former Tiger scored eight of
Olympiakos points in the final two sets while finishing the match
hitting over .600.
