The Tigers opened with back-to-back singles in the first from Pederson and Torchio to put two on with no one out. Carvutto ripped a ground ball to short, but it struck Torchio, who was ruled out on runner interference. After a walk to Martin loaded the bases, Riley pulled a single through the right side to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead But with one out, Cal State Northridge starter Ryan Juarez coaxed a double-play ball to end the inning.

Northridge tallied four in the fourth, as Josh Goossen-Brown walked and Marty Bowen singled. After a pair of outs, Kyle Attl singled up the middle to plate a pair of runs and put CSN on top 2-1. TS Reed followed with a walk and Ridge Carpenter and Adam Barry each added RBI singles as the Matadors took a 4-1 lead into the third inning.

Carvutto and Martin picked up back-to-back two-out singles in the third and Riley delivered his second RBI single of the day, hitting it back through the middle to plate Carvutto and cut the margin to 4-2. But Juarez escaped further damage with a strikeout to end the inning.

But Cal State Northridge got the run back in their half of the fifth, as Attl singled with one out, and after LHP Andrew Wild replaced Tigers' starter Brent McMinn (Houston, Texas), Carpenter doubled to left field to give CSN a 7-3 lead.

A walk to junior CF Brett Christopher (Livermore, Calif.), a double by junior C Aaron Hassel (Tarzana, Calif.) and walk to SS Josh Simms (La Mesa, Calif.) loaded the bases with one out in the top of the sixth. That prompted a move to the bullpen from the Matadors as Juarez departed. Pederson drew a walk off of RHP Vincent Roberts to pull Pacific within 7-4, but Roberts got the ground ball he needed to get out of the inning as the Matadors turned the double-play to end the threat.

Freshman pinch-hitter Curtis Gomez (Watsonville, Calif.) singled to open the eighth, and freshman PH Peter Miller (Santa Cruz, Calif.) followed with a double off the left-center field wall. Gomez trotted home on a wild pitch, and Torchio doubled to right center as the Tigers drew with 12-6. But Vincent ended the threat.

Sophomore LHP John Haberman (Stockton, Calif.) tossed the eighth, retiring the first two batters and striking out the third batter, only to see him reach via passed ball. After a single, the Matadors added an unearned run on a double from Muren, before Haberman struck out his third batter of the inning to end the frame,.
