Davis, Calif. – Despite taking the 2-1 lead in the final minutes in the first quarter, Pacific's women's water polo team dropped a 10-3 decision to No. 15 UC Davis. With the loss the Tigers fell to 9-7 on the season.
The Aggies wasted little time putting the first point on the board against the Tigers, when Dakotah Morh found the back of the net 48 seconds into the game. However senior Bethany Quertermous (Humble, Texas) countered 30 seconds later with the equalizer to tie the game at one goal apiece. Elise Martin (Calgary, AB, Canada) then gave Pacific the one point lead with the Tigers second goal of the game with 3:38 left in the first. But with 50 seconds remaining in regulation UC Davis' Carmen Eggert notched goal to tie the game at 2-2.
With the game tied entering the second frame, the Tiger offense was held scoreless while UC Davis scored a trio of goals with 7:32, 6:02 and 4:33 on the clock to gain the three point advantage.
With the Tigers down 5-2 at the start of the third quarter, the Tigers kicked off the frame with a goal from senior Mandy King (Benicia, Calif.) at the 4:32 point to reduce the Aggie lead to two. Nevertheless the Aggies countered with two goals at the 3:04 and 1:28 marks to make it a 7-3 game.
The Aggies went on to tally three additional goals in the final frame at the 4:05, 3:15 and :58 spots to seal the 10-3 victory over Pacific.
Pacific was paced by Mandy King (Benicia, Calif.), Elise Martin (Calgary, AB, Canada) and Bethany Quertermous (Humble, Texas) who scored one goal apiece. Freshman Michele Relton (Beaconsfield, QC, Canada) registered 13 saves thru four quarters in the cage for the Tigers.
The Tigers return to action March 12-13 at the Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State in San Diego, Calif.
