Riverside, Calif. – Taking on Fresno Pacific in the first game of the day, Pacific's women's water polo team cruised to a 10-3 victory over the Sunbirds on Friday, March 18, 2011. With the win the Tigers improved to 13-8 on the season while the Sunbirds fell to 5-12 on the year.
In the win the Tigers gained the three point lead in the first frame and from there Pacific never looked back. Despite giving up a pair of goals to Fresno Pacific in the second frame the Tigers maintained control of the contest, scoring three goals to take the 6-2 lead heading into halftime. Pacific went on to limit the Sunbirds to one goal in the second half while scoring four additional goals for the 10-3 win.
Individually the Tigers were led by senior Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) who completed the hat trick against Fresno Pacific. Freshman Michele Relton (Beaconsfield, QC, Canada) recorded eight saves thru three quarters for the Tigers, while senior Kailee Bucknum (Mission Viejo, Calif.) registered three saves in the final frame.
Pacific continues action on Friday, March 18, at 5:15 pm against Marist.
