San Diego, Calif. – Facing Wagner at the Aztec Invitational on Saturday, March 12, Pacific's women's water polo team defeated the Seahawks 8-6. With the win Pacific improved to 10-7 on the season while the Seahawks fell to 10-6 on the year.
In the win the Tigers jumped gained an early two goal advantage, taking the 3-1 lead in the first frame. With the lead heading into the second frame Pacific continued its scoring attack against Wagner, tallying two additional goals in the second period while limiting the Seahawks to a pair of goals for a 5-3 scoring heading into the half. In the two final quarter the Tigers went on to score three additional goals, while shutting out Wagner in the third frame and gave up a trio of goals in the last eight minutes of regulation for an 8-6 final score.
Individually the Tigers were led by senior Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) who completed the hat trick in the win. Also scoring goals for Pacific were Bethany Quertermous (Humble, Texas), Brittany Lloyd (Orinda, Calif.), Mandy King (Benicia, Calif.), Siobhan Larsen (Mundelein, Ill.) and Callan Rowe (Carlisle, Pa.). Freshman Michele Relton (Beaconsfield, QC, Canada) recorded 12 saves in the cage for Pacific.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, March 12 at 1:15 pm against No. 18 UC San Diego.
