Final Stats

Monoa, Hawaii.

The No.13 Pacific Tigers took a trip to play a two match set with No.9 Hawaii Warriors amid scares of a tsunami the match went on as scheduled. The home team took got the best of the Tigers in the first of two Mountain Pacific Sports Federation matches at the Stan Sheriff Center, taking the match in four.

Set scores for the match were: 27-29, 25-23, 26-24, 25-17.

Pacific took down the Warriors in set one 29-27 but ultimately fell in the match.

Redshirt sophomore, Taylor Hughes (Fallbrook, Calif.) was nearly unstoppable to start the match but finished with a team-high 21 kills.

In Set one, the Tigers jumped out to a 6-2 lead before the Warriors woke up and scored five straight for a 17-14 lead. UH, which committed four errors in its first six attempts, went unscathed until committing consecutive errors on two set points. The Tigers then blocked Umlauft for a 26-25 lead and redshirt junior Chaz Hindsley's (Northfield, Ill.) let serve ace gave them the set at 29-27.

Hawaii responded in set two taking a 10-6 lead to start the frame. Pacific fought their way back and after consecutive stuff blocks of Umlauft and Hunt, the Tigers had a 22-21 lead. Hawaii's Umlauft responded with a kill and back-to-back aces giving the Warriors set point at 24-22. Jarrod Lofy put down his fourth kill claiming the set and evening the match at 1-1.

Pacific got out front in set three generating 7-0 lead after the Warriors committed four errors in their first five attempts. Hawaii slowly chipped away to within 15-14 and tied it at 18. The Tigers scored three straight forcing UH head coach Charlie Wade to call his final timeout but the Warriors answered back with six straight, including three straight blocks by Shane Welch. The Tigers fought off three set points before the Warriors put away the set with another block by Welch and Umlauft.

Pacific again got out to a lead to start Set four 7-3. Hawaii rallied and took the lead 15-14 at the media timeout. From there, the Tigers committed three straight hitting errors during a five-point Warrior run. Pacific fell 25-17 in the frame to wrap up the match.

With the result Hawaii improved to 9-9, 7-6(MPSF), while Pacific dropped to 7-13, 3-11 (MPSF)

Pacific stays on the island to play the Warriors in the second scheduled match Saturday March 12 at 9:00pm.
