Tigers Defeated By No. 9 San Jose State, 10-5

Jan. 30, 2011

San Jose, Calif. - Taking on host San Jose State (SJSU) at the Spartan Invitational on Sunday, January 30, Pacific's women's water polo team fell 10-5 to the No. 9 team in the nation. The loss dropped the Tigers to 1-2 on the season while the Spartans improved to 5-2 on the year.

In the first frame the Tigers kept the contest tied at one all behind Michele Relton's five saves in the cage. However the Spartans four unanswered goals in the second quarter proved to be the difference as Pacific's offense was not able to overcome SJSU's lead in the final frames.

Offensively the Tigers were led by Dara Tawarahara who found the net twice. Chelsea Weir and the Loper twins, Melissa and Jessica, scored one goal apiece. Relton ended the contest with 14 saves in the cage for Pacific.

Pacific concluded action at the Spartan Invitational in a 2:30 p.m. contest against Cal State Monterey Bay.
