Final Stats
The Pacific field hockey team recorded their second consecutive victory on the road by defeating Missouri State 4-2 Saturday, September 26th 2010. With the win, the Tigers improve to 2-7 on the season. Freshman Alohilani Ornellas (Escondido, Calif.) led the charge with a goal and an assist.
The Tigers took advantage of a Missouri State miscue by goalie Steph Anderson, who failed to clear a shot. Ornellas was in the right place at the right time, and the Tigers took the lead in the 3rd minute. Eight minutes later, Missouri State would answer on a goal from Casey Bayliss.
However, just as they did in their game against St. Louis, Pacific responded in a big way. Right before the half, senior Kelly Perkins (Gilroy, Calif.) put the Tigers back on top off a set up from sophomore Emily Trudeau (San Jose, Calif.) In the 49th minute, freshman Melissa Maultsby scored her third goal of the season off a set up from Ornellas. Pacific finished up the scoring when sophomore Jenna Vivian (Gilroy, Calif.) scored her third goal of the trip off a pass from junior Amanda Spellman (Gilroy, Calif.).
Missouri State would add a goal in the 65th minute, when Casey Bayliss would again find the back of the net; by then the damage had been done.
Defensively, Pacific goalie Ashlee Schlesier (San Diego, Calif.) recorded her second consecutive win to improve to 2-7 on the year. She saved six shots while allowing only two goals.
The Tigers will return home to prepare for their next east coast swing, where they will face Delaware October 8th, and No. 2 Maryland October 10th.
