Haberman Named Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American

Aug. 3, 2010

Tucson, Ariz. - After a fabulous freshman season, John Haberman (Stockton, Calif.) was named to the 2010 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Team by Collegiate Baseball. Haberman is the first Tiger to pick up the freshman award since Nick Longmire garnered the same recognition in 2007.

In his first season of Division I play Haberman opened the season as one of Pacific's most consistent hitters, batting .400 or better in his first 24 games played. Haberman appeared in 42 games, making 39 starts as the Tigers' designated hitter. To go along with his .359 OBP and his .404 slugging percentage, Haberman hit an impressive .321 in 156 at-bats in 2010. In addition to his invaluable service at the plate, Haberman also compiled 20.1 innings as a pitcher, striking out 17 and walking 12. Haberman had two four-hit games in 2010. He went 4-for-5 with three RBI and two doubles on March 26 at San Jose State, as well as 4-for-5 plate appearance with two doubles on April 10 against UC Riverside.

As his play sparkled throughout the season, John began raking in awards both from the Big West Conference and also around the country. For his success both on the mound and at the plate against No. 19 Stanford and San Jose State, Haberman became the first Tiger in 2010 to be named as one of 15 weekly CollegeBaseball360.com Primetime Players the week ending April 1. Against the Spartans on March 28, Haberman drove in all three of Pacific's runs during their 3-2 victory in extra innings, including the run in the bottom of the ninth to push the game into extras, and his bat also produced the game-tying and winning runs in the bottom of the 11th. On the mound against No. 19 Stanford on March 23, Haberman went on to record his first career victory. That week John was also named Pacific's first Big West Pitcher of the Week in 2010.
