Pacific Field Hockey Drops Season Opener to Cardinal

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific field hockey team dropped its season opening and conference opening game to Stanford, 6-0 at Brookside Field on Friday, August 27. Pacific falls to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the NorPac, while the Cardinal improve to 1-0 (1-0).

"The final score was not indicative of how we played," said head coach Linda MacDonald. The Tigers and Cardinal matched up for a scrimmage August 17th in Palo Alto, which Stanford won handily. The Tigers played a much different game today by staying aggressive and creating opportunities offensively and defensively.

Freshman Emily Tregoning (San Jose, Calif.) and Lauren Grupe (Newport Beach, Calif.) both had shots for the Tigers, while Tregoning recorded the first defensive save of the year. Sophomores Ashlee Schlesier (San Diego, Calif.) and Stephanie Douglass (Saratoga, Calif.) split time in goal, with Schlesier recording two saves and Douglass one.

Stanford had six different players score goals and outshot Pacific 14-2. Jamiee Erickson led the way with three points, off a goal and an assist. Goalkeeper Alessandra Moss earned the win in goal for the Cardinal.

The Tigers have a quick turnaround, as they are back in action on Sunday when the travel to Berkeley to host Miami (Ohio). Start time for the game is at 12 p.m.
