Long Beach, Calif. – In Pacific's final contest of the Big West Tournament, the No. 12 Tigers won a 7-5 decision over No. 14 UC Santa Barbara to finish in third place. With the win the Tigers improved to 23-10 (4-1 Big West) while the Gauchos fell to 18-12 (3-2 Big West).
In the first quarter UC Santa Barbara jumped out to the 1-0 lead when Claire Buchanan found the back of the net at the 6:22 spot, however the Tigers responded with consecutive goals from junior Bethany Quertermous (Humble, Texas) at the 5:46 and 5:05 points. With 4:50 remaining on the clock the Gauchos tallied a goal to tie the game at two all to end the quarter.
UC Santa Barbara then took its first lead of the contest at the 4:38 spot in the second quarter but freshman Jasmine Myles (Auckland, New Zealand) countered at the 3:10 point to make it a 3-3 game.
During the third quarter Pacific regained the lead on back-to-back goals from junior Bridget Geck (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawai'i) at the 2:49 and 2:07 marks respectively for the 5-3 lead, while the Tiger defense held the Gauchos scoreless.
In the final frame the Tigers extended their lead to three when Quertermous scored her third goal of the contest to put Pacific up 6-3, but the Gauchos answered with uninterrupted goals at the 5:36 and 4:54 points. Pacific had the one point advantage heading in to the final minutes when Myles tallied her second goal on the day with 3:12 remaining in regulation to secure the 7-5 victory for the Tigers.
Pacific was led by junior Bethany Quertermous (Humble, Texas) who notched three goals while freshman Brooke Millar (Auckland, New Zealand) recorded 10 saves in the cage for the Tigers.
