Santa Barbara, Calif. - During Pacific's first game of the UCSB Invitational, the Tigers dropped an 8-5 decision to the host No. 12 Gauchos.
With the loss, Pacific fell to 17-7 on the year while UC Santa Barbara improved to 13-8 in 2010.
UC Santa Barbara opened the first quarter taking the 1-0 lead at the 6:48 mark and held Pacific scoreless until the 4:07 point when junior Siobhan Larsen (Mundelein, Ill.) tied the game at one goal apiece. Santa Barbara led 2-1 at with 2:02 left on the clock when Larsen notched her second goal of the quarter at the 1:45 point to tie the game at two all.
UC Santa Barbara extended its lead by four in the second quarter while the Tiger offense was held scoreless.
Trailing 6-2 entering the third quarter junior Bridget Geck (Huntington Beach, Calif.) helped the Tigers cut UC Santa Barbara's lead to three. Pacific's defense stepped up in the quarter holding the Gaucho offense scoreless.
In the final frame Geck and freshman Jasmine Myles (Auckland, New Zealand) notched back-to-back goals at the 5:49 and 4:54 points respectively to make it a 6-5 contest. The Gaucho's closed the quarter scoring consecutive goals for an 8-5 final score.
Pacific continues action at 3:30 p.m. against the US Under-18 team and will face UC Irvine on Sunday, March 28 at 9:30 a.m.
