Tigers Open 2010 Season at NorCal Tournament, Defeated by No. 3 Hawai'i 11-5

Berkeley, Calif. – The Pacific women's water polo team was defeated by No. 3 Hawai'i, 11-5, in the opening day of the NorCal Tournament. With the loss the Tigers fall to 0-1 on the season while Hawai'i improves to 2-0 on the year.

In the first quarter the Tigers took an early 1-0 lead at the 7:21 mark on a goal by freshman Jasmine Myles (Auckland, New Zealand). Hawaii responded at the 6:07 spot to tie the game at one goal apiece. The Rainbow Wahine took the 2-1 lead with 1:27 left in the quarter.

Hawaii opened the second quarter notching three unanswered goals for the 5-1 lead, but Myles cut the lead to three with her second goal of the game. Hawaii notched back-to-back goals to make it a 7-2 contest entering the half.

Pacific opened the third quarter cutting Hawaii's lead to four on a goal from junior Bridget Geck (Huntington Beach, Calif.). Myles tallied her third goal of the game near the five minute mark to complete the hat trick and make it a 7-4 contest. The Rainbow Wahine gained a five point advantage, notching back-to-back goals with less than three minutes left in the third quarter.

Trailing 10-4 at the start of the fourth quarter junior Mandy King (Benicia, Calif.) scored Pacific's final goal to make it a 10-5 game. Hawaii closed out the contest notching its final goal at the 6:28 mark for the 11-5 lead.

The Tigers were led by Jasmine Myles (Auckland, New Zealand) who scored three goals in the contest. Freshman Brooke Millar (Auckland, New Zealand) finished the night with seven saves in the cage for Pacific.

The Tigers continue action at the NorCal Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 30, at 1 p.m. against No. 14 UC Davis.
