Box Score
Stanford, Calif. -
The Pacific field hockey team could not find its rhythm against No. 13 Stanford Friday night as they fell 5-1 in their second NorPac Conference contest of the season. Now 2-6 overall, the Tigers drop to 1-1 in conference play.
The Cardinal defense managed to keep the Tigers out of the circle in the first half, while their offense grabbed four goals. Despite being out shot 10-0, Pacific used the break to regroup and never stopped fighting. Stanford would get its final goal of the game 15 minutes into the second half off of a penalty corner.
Sophomore Robin Nelson (Morgan Hill, Calif.) sent off Pacific's first shot just 20 seconds after subbing into the game. But senior Katy McDonough (Ventura, Calif.) would score the Tigers lone goal on a cross by senior Brianna Cummins (Fallbrook, Calif.) with two and half minutes to play. McDonough chipped the ball in high over goalkeeper Alessandra Moss' head for her second of the year.
Freshman Samantha Romero (Gilroy, Calif.) attempted a shot as time expired, but it sailed wide.
Pacific will stay on the road and head north to face UC Davis on Sunday, Sept. 27. Davis, in its inaugural season, is now coached by former Pacific standout Vianney Campos. This marks the first time the two teams meet this season and the beginning of the rivalry. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
