Easton, Pa. -
The Pacific field hockey team could not fend off Hofstra University's offensive press Sunday morning and fell 5-1 on Lafayette University's Rappolt Field. The Pride put up 29 shots to Pacific's six to improve to 5-3 on the season.
Hofstra kept the Tigers out of the circle for the last ten minutes of the first half. Freshman goalie Ashlee Schlesier (San Diego, Calif.) saved a shot with four minutes to go before the break that set up the Pride's fourth penalty corner of the half.
Schlesier then stopped two back-to-back shots by Amy-Lee Levey before Hofstra earned their fifth penalty corner. Levey would try again and again be stopped by Schlesier.
The freshman would get one more shot away from the goal before time expired for her 10th of the game. She finished with a career-high 17 saves in her seventh straight start of the season and now has 50 for the year.
Pacific (2-5) earned their goal off a penalty stroke by senior Lisa Muhl (Harleysville, Pa.). This was her second goal of the season; both have been on penalty strokes.
The Pride were led by Genna Kovar who finished with two goals.
The Tigers return back west this week just to continue on the road. They will face No. 14 Stanford University at Stanford on Sept. 25. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
