After holding the University to Maine to just two goals on nine shots in the first half, the Pacific field hockey team falter in the final half to drop their second road game 7-2 Friday afternoon in Rutgers University's Bauer Complex.
Senior forward Kiddy Leubane (Capetown, South Africa) continued to put up points for Pacific on the road, scoring the Tigers first goal. She sent the ball over goalkeeper Brittany Fleck's head on a pass from freshman Samantha Romero (Gilroy, Calif.).
Pacific (2-4) finished the first half down just 2-1. But Maine (6-1), who is receiving votes for national ranking, slipped in five goals in the second half to take the win. Kelly Newton led the Black Bears with three goals and three assists.
The Tigers second goal of the afternoon came unassisted from junior Kelly Perkins (Gilroy, Calif.). She rebounded a shot off a missed corner by Lisa Muhl (Harleysville, Pa.) and sent it in on the left side of the goal.
The road trip continues for Pacific on Sunday, Sept. 20 as they head back to Easton, Pa to face off against Hofstra. The contest is set to begin at 8 a.m. PST on Lafayette's campus.
