Tigers Drop Game Against Lafayette, 4-3

Sept. 17, 2009

Box Score

Easton, PA - The Pacific field hockey team dropped a physical battle on the road to Lafayette University Thursday evening 4-3. This was the first of a three-game road trip on the east coast for the Tigers and their first night game of the season.

Lafayette got on the board first when Bridget Hilbig sent in a shot from Deanna DiCroce. Just 21 seconds after the Leopards went up 2-0, senior Kiddy Leubane (Capetown, South Africa) woke up Pacific's offense for her third goal of the season on pass from sophomore Marleen Canillas (San Ysidro, Calif.).

The Leopards would get another goal through before junior Sarah Miceli (Los Gatos, Calif.) found senior Kim Keyawa (Chico, Calif.) in front of the goal. Keyawa, who currently leads the Tigers with four goals this season, slapped the shot in to close the gap. Freshman goalie Ashlee Schlesier (San Diego, Calif.) and the Pacific defense fended off a game-high 16 shots from Lafayette, allowing four in. Schlesier finished with five saves.

Another freshman stepped up during the contest. Samantha Romero (Gilroy, Calif.) scored her first collegiate goal on a pass from Leubane to pull Pacific to within one. But the Tigers could not find the back of the net again, falling to 2-3 overall.

Pacific travels to face the University of Maine on Friday, Sept. 18. The contest begins at noon PST on Rutgers University's campus.
