Stockton, Calif. -
Senior Kim Keyawa (Chico, Calif.) knocked in both the game-tying and game-winning goals Friday afternoon for the Pacific field hockey team as the Tigers defeated Missouri State 2-1 in their home opener.
Melissa Lantz put Missouri State (0-1) on the board in the first half after chipping in a shot on a penalty corner. The Tigers rebounded offensively after the break. Keyawa netted Pacific's first goal with a goal on a penalty corner with the help of fellow senior Katy McDonough (Ventura, Calif.) and sophomore Amanda Spellman (Gilroy, Calif.)
The score remained tied over 20 minutes before Keyawa dribbled past a defender at the top of the circle and beat the Bears goalie one-on-one for the game winning stroke.
Freshman goalie Ashlee Schlesier (San Diego, Calif.) allowed just the one goal, grabbing five saves in her collegiate debut for the Tigers.
The Tigers head to Berkley on Saturday, Aug. 29, to host Towson University at 4 p.m. The game is set to be played at University of California, Berkeley.
