Stockton, Calif. - Field hockey at Pacific kicked off the year on a high note Sunday afternoon as they downed California 2-1 at home on Brookside Field. The game was the first exhibition of three the Tigers will play in the preseason.

Erin Magill put in the Golden Bears only goal of the day off a penalty corner 12 minutes into the game. By the end of the first half, Cal was up 1-0 having taken seven shots to Pacific's one.

Pacific came out of the break on fire. Senior captain Lisa Muhl (Harleysville, Pa.) started the rally just six minutes into the final half by finishing a broken corner play to the back post of the goal to tie the game.

Three minutes later, fellow senior Kiddy Leubane (Capetown, South Africa) dove to beat Cal's goalkeeper to a looseball, knocking it into the goal to give the Tigers the lead.

“This team plays with a lot of heart and never gives up,” said Head Coach Linda MacDonald.

The Tigers outshot Cal 4-2 in the second half.

Freshman goalkeeper Ashlee Schlesier (San Diego, Calif.) allowed just one goal while grabbing three saves in the win.

“I'm pleased with how they did today,” said MacDonald, “but Tuesday is another game.”

Pacific will head to Stanford on Tuesday, August 18. The game is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
