Pacific Falls to San Francisco, 7-1

April 7, 2009

Box Score

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific baseball team lost to San Francisco in non-conference action by a final score of 7-1 on Tuesday, April 7. With the loss Pacific dropped to 11-16 overall and 4-2 in the Big West, while the Dons improved to 15-18 on the year.

Starting pitcher RHP David Rowse (Pleasanton, Calif.) suffered the loss and dropped to 1-1 on the season. Cameron Love earned the win for the Dons, moving to 2-1.

San Francisco jumped on the board early with three runs in the first and two more in the second to take a quick 5-0 lead, and the Tigers could never really come up with an answer. Against San Francisco's bullpen pitchers, the Tigers struck out eight times, unable to record more than two hits through the first half of the game.

Pacific tried to rally however, in the bottom of the eighth, still scoreless until that point. Against pitcher Matt Chavez sophomore Nick Longmire (San Diego, Calif.) tried to spark a rally when he struck a 1-0 single through the left side of the diamond as the lead-off batter. Freshman Josh Simms (La Mesa, Calif.) followed that up with a single of his own, as Longmire displayed his speed and raced on over to third in scoring position. Sophomore J.B. Brown (Alvin, Texas) flied out to center field as a sacrifice, plating Longmire to cut the lead at 5-1 with one out. That was all the Tigers could muster, as senior Mike McKeever (San Diego, Calif.) lined into a double play that eliminated Simms at first.

Junior Ben Gorang (Turlock, Calif.) led the Tigers when he went 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles. Brown also tallied a hit in the loss, marking the 18th-straight game in which he's recorded a hit. That streak currently ties him for the lead in the Big West Conference. In 27 total games this season, Brown has recorded a hit in all but one contest.

Pacific returns to action on Thursday, April 9 at 5:35 p.m. for a three-game series against No. 16 Cal Poly.
