Stockton, Calif. – The Pacific women's water polo team lost an exciting game to the No. 9 UC Irvine Anteaters on Sunday, April 5, by a score of 9-6. With the loss, the Tigers fell to 8-20 overall and 1-3 in Big West Conference play. The Anteaters improved to 16-8 overall and 2-0 in league play.
The Tigers scored the first goal of the game with two minutes left in the first quarter. UC Irvine responded with one of its own to knot the score at 1-1 after the first quarter. Irvine found the back of the net two more times in the second quarter. Pacific was able to net one more goal as Sophomore Bethany Quertermous (Humble, Texas) made a shot at the buzzer to pull within one goal.
An aggressive third quarter saw the Tigers scoring three goals, and the Anteaters scoring four. Trailing by two goals, 7-5 Pacific was only able to score one more goal in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) found the back of the net four times and Quertermous scored twice in the loss.
Freshman Lindsey Pengilly (Stockton, Calif.) made nine saves in the cage.
Pacific can be seen in action again on Sunday, April 5, at Chris Kjeldsen Pool as the Tigers play host to UC Santa Cruz at 3 p.m.
