Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific baseball team fell to Long Beach State on Sunday, April 26, by a final score of 10-3.
With the loss the Tigers dropped to 16-22 on the season and 7-8 in the Big West Conference (BWC). The 49ers improved to 20-19 overall and 7-5 in the BWC.
The winning pitcher was Jake Thompson (3-5).
The losing pitcher was junior LHP Jamie Niley fell to 1-2 on the year (Elk Grove, Calif.).
The Tigers got on the board in the bottom of the first with three straight singles from sophomore Nick Longmire (San Diego, Calif.), senior Joey Centanni (San Diego, Calif.) and sophomore J.B. Brown (Alvin, Texas). With one out sophomore Brian Martin (Livermore, Calif.) singled and drove home the first Pacific run, as the Tigers took an early 1-0 lead. With bases loaded, Longmire scored on a sacrifice fly from senior Kurt Wideman (Fallbrook, Calif.). Pacific led 2-0 after the first inning.
This would be the last time Pacific had the lead, as Long Beach State put together a four run inning in the third, making the score 4-2. After another Long Beach run in the fifth, Pacific inched closer at 5-3 after back-to-back doubles from Wideman and junior Mike Walker (Marysville, Calif.).
Long Beach State scored a run in the seventh and four more in the ninth, wrapping the game up with a 10-3 win, and sweeping the three-game series.
Freshman Josh Simms (La Mesa, Calif.) led the Tigers offensively after going 2-2 with two walks.
The Tigers will be back to action at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 28 at California.
