Davis, Calif. - The Pacific women's water polo team lost its final Big West Conference game 14-6 to No. 10 UC Davis on Saturday April 11. With the loss, the Tigers fell to 9-21 overall and 1-4 in conference. The UC Davis Aggies improved to 21-8 overall, 4-1 in conference play.
The Aggies jumped ahead quickly scoring six goals in the first quarter. The Tigers were able to find the back of the net twice in the first, but were shut out in the second quarter. After an explosive showing UC Davis took an 11-2 lead to halftime.
The third quarter showed a stronger defensive effort from Pacific. Pacific allowed only two goals in the third quarter and one in the fourth. In an attempt to capitalize on their defensive efforts, the Tigers scored three goals in the third and found the back of the net once more in the fourth. The late game scoring was not enough to overcome the deficit from the first half.
Sophomore Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) led the Tigers in scoring with three goals making this is the tenth game in which Tawarahara has scored three or more goals. Freshman Allison Kosich (Stockton, Calif.) netted two goals in the loss, sophomore Courtney Boettger (Stockton, Calif.) rounded out Pacific's scoring with one goal of her own.
Freshman Lindsey Pengilly (Stockton, Calif.) started the game for the Tigers. She recorded two saves during her time in goal. Junior Jill Hauck (Pottsville, Penn.) relieved Pengilly in the second half. Hauck tallied seven blocks including the block of a five-meter shot.
