Tigers Fall to No. 6 San Diego State

Santa Barbara, Calif. - The Pacific women's water polo team started off the Gaucho Spring Invite with a tough 9-5 loss to No. 6 San Diego State, on Saturday, Mar. 7. With the win, San Diego State is 14-2 while the Tigers fell to 5-10 on the season.

In the first game for both teams at the Gaucho Invite, the San Diego State Aztecs jumped ahead with a quick 3-1 lead. Pacific was held scoreless in the second quarter as the Aztecs netted 5 more goals, taking an 8-1 lead to halftime. The Tigers were able to score four more goals and slow the San Diego State offense in the second half to end the game 11-5.

Sophomore Bethany Quertermous (Humble, Texas) led Pacific with two goals, fellow sophomores Bridget Geck (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Maggie Eicks (Houston, Texas) each netted one goal each. Freshman Katherine Biehle (Visalia, Calif.) added one more goal.

Defensively, freshman Lindsey Pengilly (Stockton, Calif.) recorded 4 saves and junior Jill Hauck (Pottsville, Penn.) tallied 3 saves of her own.

Pacific returns to the pool Saturday Mar. 7, at 2:00 p.m. to take on Bucknell at the Gaucho Spring Invite in Santa Barbara, Calif.

San Diego State:  3 - 5 - 1 - 2 = 11
