Northridge, Calif. - In the first game of conference play in the inaugural year of Big West Conference women's water polo, the Pacific women's water polo team dropped a 12-3 decision to the Cal State Northridge Matadors on Saturday, Mar. 28. With the loss, Pacific fell to 7-18 overall, 0-1 in the Big West Conference. The Matadors improved to 14-13 on the season, 1-0 in conference play.
Cal State Northridge jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first quarter. The Tigers were able to net one goal in the second quarter, but allowed four more goals. The Matadors took an 8-1 lead to the halftime break.
Pacific was able to find the back of the net twice more in the third quarter. Northridge matched the Tigers' two goals in the third, then tallied two more in the fourth to seal the 12-3 win.
Sophomore Kailee Bucknum (Mission Viejo, Calif.) led Pacific with two goals, while sophomore Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) added one of her own. Freshman Lindsey Pengilly (Stockton, Calif.) recorded 12 saves in the cage.
The Tigers' return to action with another Big West Conference game Sunday, Mar 29 at 12:00p.m. at UC Santa Barbara.
