Tigers Hold Off Harvard For a 7-6 Victory

March 24, 2009

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's water polo team beat the Harvard Crimson, 7-6 in an exciting game on Tuesday, Mar. 24. With the win the Tigers improve to 7-17, while the Crimson dropped to 5-8.

The Tigers started explosively, scoring three goals in the first quarter. The Tigers kept up the attack as they netted four more goals in the second period, holding the visiting Crimson to one goal taking a 7-1 lead to the half.

The second half saw little offensive action for Pacific as Harvard scored five unanswered goals to creep back in the game. The Tigers held on to the lead thanks to great defensive plays by freshman goalie, Lindsey Pengilly (Stockton, Calif.). Pacific was able to maintain possession of the ball for the final minute of the game to seal the victory.

Sophomore Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) led the Tigers with four goals all coming in the first half. Sophomore Bridget Geck (Huntington Beach, Calif.) added two goals and sophomore Bethany Quertermous found the back of the net once in the win.

Pengilly had an outstanding showing in the cage making 16 saves during the game, allowing only on goal in the first half.

Pacific returns to action 12:00 p.m. Saturday Mar. 28, as they travel south to play Cal State Northridge.
