Tigers Collect First Win of The Season

Feb. 7, 2009

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's water polo team collect their first win of the season as they beat Cal State East Bay by a score of 10-7 on Saturday, Feb. 7. With the win the Tigers improved to 1-4 while the Pioneers dropped to 0-2.

The Tigers started out strong in the first period outscoring the Pioneers 3-1. Sophomore Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) scored two of her game high four goals in the first quarter. The second period provided a strong defensive effort from the Tigers. This included a great showing from junior Jill Hauck (Pottsville, Penn.) in the cage, combined with a handful of forced turnovers that allowed the Tigers to keep their two goal lead as they went to half with a score of 5-3.

The Tigers extended their lead with an explosive third quarter rally scoring 4 goals, while holding the Pioneers to one lone goal for the quarter. The Pioneers climbed back in to the game with three goals, as Cal State East Bay's sophomore Liz Warren and junior Jenna Casady both scored their second goals of the game. Sophomore Meara McCarthy (Simsbury, Conn.) scored the only goal for Pacific and her second of the game to ensure a 10-7 win.
