Pacific Downed By Santa Clara, 8-6

Santa Cruz, Calif. - The Pacific women's water polo team lost a close game to Santa Clara 8-6 in the first game of the Slugfest hosted by UC Santa Cruz on Saturday, Feb. 28. The Tigers fell to 4-7 on the season with the loss, as the Broncos improve to 6-7 on the year after their win.

This was the third time that Pacific and Santa Clara have met this year. With the loss, Pacific falls behind in 1-2 in the series.

The Tigers started out slowly, but pulled ahead with a four-goal second quarter to take a two goal lead to halftime. Pacific was shut out in the third and found the back of the cage again in the fourth, but could not stop the Santa Clara offense.

Sophomore Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) and freshman Allison Kosich (Stockton, Calif.) led the Tigers with two goals each. Sophomores Bethany Quertermous (Humble, Texas) and Maggie Eicks (Houston, Texas), both added one goal.

The Tigers face Indiana University at 4:45pm, at the Slugfest in Santa Cruz, Calif. on Saturday, Feb. 28.
