Berkeley, Calif. -
The Pacific field hockey team fell to NorPac Conference rival California 4-1 on the road Sunday afternoon. Senior Lisa Muhl (Harleysville, Pa.) scored the Tigers only goal after a penalty corner. It was the defenders fourth goal this season. She was assisted by fellow seniors Katy McDonough (Ventura, Calif.) and Brianna Cummins (Fallbrook, Calif.).
The Tigers lone goal came just five and half minutes into the game. Lisa Lohre grabbed her first goal of the season for the Golden Bears 10 minutes later on a penalty stroke after Cal's leading scorer Natalie Nurnberg's shot was blocked.
The teams would remain deadlocked through the remainder of the period. But Cal (5-9, 3-1 NorPac) outshot the Tigers 8-3 in the second half, knocking in three goals to take the conference win.
Pacific (3-7, 2-2 NorPac) heads back east for its next three contests, visiting No. 14 Louisville first on Oct. 22. The Tigers will be looking to knock out their first ranked opponent this season before then taking on Penn State and Indiana, both of whom are receiving votes. The game against Louisville is set to kick off at 12 p.m. PST.
