Pacific Women's Water Polo Falls to UC Davis, 11-6 to Begin 2009 Season

Jan. 31, 2009

Santa Clara, Calif. - The Pacific women's water polo team suffered an 11-6 defeat to No. 9 UC Davis during the first game of the 2009 NorCal Tournament, to kick off a double-header.

Pacific began non-conference action with an 0-1 overall record, while the Aggies improved to 1-0 on the year.

Despite a rough first quarter in which UC Davis recorded five goals against the Tigers, Pacific picked up its defense and only allowed six more goals throughout the next three quarters.

Defensively in the cage, Pacific was led by freshman goalie Lindsey Pengilly (Stockton, Calif.), who tallied a total of five saves while playing in the entire second half of the match. She also tallied two steals during that time. She rose to the challenge in the first collegiate, Division I match of her career.

With Pengilly behind them, the Tigers stepped up their offense to find a scoring rhythm, as sophomore driver Siobhan Larsen (Mundelein, Ill.) in the third quarter. Four Tigers found the back of the net in the fourth and final quarter, as sophomore Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) led her teammates with two goals. Junior Alex Kutac (Houston, Texas) and sophomore Bridget Geck (Huntington Beach, Calif.) each scored on a piece.

Junior Jill Hauck (Pottsville, Penn.) started off the match in the cage with three saves and one steal.
